Travel Bans & Case Removal in the UAE

A travel ban can only be lifted by addressing its source. We identify whether the ban is criminal, civil, or immigration-related — then pursue the correct legal route to remove it and close the underlying case.

Understanding Travel Bans & Case Removal in the UAE

Discovering a travel ban — often at the airport — is one of the most stressful experiences a UAE resident or visitor can face. Bans arise from different sources with different rules: a criminal case or ongoing investigation, a civil judgment or precautionary order obtained by a creditor, immigration and residency matters, or unpaid financial obligations. Each type is lifted through a different authority and procedure, and effort spent on the wrong route is effort wasted while the ban remains in force.

Our approach is diagnostic first: confirm the existence, type, and source of the ban through the appropriate channels, then attack the cause. That may mean settling or defending the underlying case, applying to the Public Prosecution or court for the ban to be lifted, negotiating with the creditor behind a civil ban, or regularising an immigration issue. Where the underlying case can be closed — through settlement, withdrawal of the complaint, or judgment — we pursue removal of the case itself, not just the symptom.

Official channels exist to check certain bans — for example, Dubai Police provide an online service for financial cases in Dubai — but no single public system covers every type of ban across all emirates. A lawyer can make the appropriate inquiries with the relevant authorities to confirm the position reliably before you travel.
It depends entirely on the cause. A ban tied to a settled debt can sometimes be lifted within days of payment and the creditor’s confirmation; a ban tied to an ongoing criminal case may last until the case concludes, unless the prosecution or court is persuaded to lift it earlier. The correct diagnosis at the start is what prevents months of wasted effort.
Sometimes. Options can include negotiating a settlement or instalment arrangement with the creditor, providing a guarantee acceptable to the court, or challenging the basis of the ban itself where it was wrongly imposed. Each route depends on the facts of the underlying case, which we assess before recommending a strategy.
